Dave Higgins has been a student of software development methods since 1975. Together with Ken Orr and the late Jean-Dominique Warnier, Dave was one of the principal architects of the Data Structured Software Development (DSSD) Methodology, more widely known as the Warnier/Orr approach. In the course of his career he has performed literally hundreds of seminars on various topics from program design and modification, to systems and data base design, to requirements definition, to planning and project management.

Dave is a noted author and worldwide lecturer. His first book, published in 1979, was one of the first on developing good programs for personal computers, and has since been translated into over a dozen languages. One of his more recent books, Data Structured Software Maintenance, remains one of the few to address the practical application of structured concepts to the modification of existing programs. He is also the author of Data Structured Program Design Workshop (with Dave Scott).

Dave has worked with Ken Orr from 1975 off and on, taking a few years off from consulting in the 1990s to manage advanced (client-server) systems development at a couple of Kansas City area Fortune 500 companies. When the Dilbert strips on 1990s management style started to be more painful than funny, he rejoined The Ken Orr Institute as Senior Partner in 1997.

Since rejoining Ken Orr, Dave has been involved in many systems planning and management, data sharing, and Year 2000 awareness training and communications planning.
