LEON S. LEVY retired in 1995 after 16 years as a Distinguished Member
of the Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories, where his career included software
development projects and four years developing and teaching courses on artificial
intelligence.
At Bell Labs he pioneered in the field of application code
generation, for which he earned the Distinguished Staff Award in 1983.
He
has also been a logical designer at RCA, recipient of a David Sarnoff Fellowship,
Senior Staff Engineer at Hughes Aircraft Co., Manager of the Computers and Displays
Section at Aerospace Corp., Senior Engineer at IBM, Associate Professor of Computer
Science at the University of Delaware, visiting Associated Professor at the University
of Pennsylvania, and visiting Full Professor at Ben Gurion University, Israel.
Leon
Levy holds a B.A. in physics from Yeshiva College, S.M. in applied science and
M.E. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, an M.B.A. in economics from
Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University
of Pennsylvania, where he held a University Fellowship in 1969.
He is the
author of numerous publications in computer science and economics and is currently
co-authoring a book on rule-based programming. From 1988 to 1991 he lectured on
software engineering and software economics in the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer
series.
