HEIN VAN STEENIS worked for IBM Netherlands International Operations
from 1960 to 1987, traveling extensively for the company in Europe and the United
States. During those years, he specialized in character recognition planning,
development, and standards; he also held positions in many areas of software development
including ergonomics coordinator and manager of information services. He currently
works as an independent consultant, with a special interest in the relationships
between people and computers.
Born in Java, Indonesia, the author received
an M.Sc. in electronics from Delft Institute of Technology and from Stanford University.
He now lives in Armstelveen (The Netherlands) with his wife, and they have three
daughters.
